Sacramento, CA
Flash flood warnings were issued for parts of Amador and Placer counties this weekend as El Niño continues to bring steady rainfall to Northern California. Some flash flooding though doesn't quite compare to what's been happening in the Midwest this winter. Unusual storms have sent large volumes of water into rivers and drainage areas causing historic flooding in Illinois and Missouri. Flooding has disrupted transportation systems and stressed levee and flood protection systems. The new Shlemon Chair in Applied Geology at UC Davis is a flood expert recently transposed from Illinois to California. Insight talks with him about the record-setting flooding happening the Midwest and what California might learn from it as El Niño continues to bring water the area.
