The Trump Administration started off 2018 with several controversial moves on immigration.

The Department of Homeland Security has announced the end of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants from El Salvador, Haiti, Sudan and Nicaragua. Later this year it will decide whether to extend or end TPS for immigrants from Syria, Nepal, Honduras, Yemen and Somalia.  About 435,000 people have been granted TPS by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

On Tuesday, US District Court Judge William Alsup issued an injunction ordering the Trump Administration to keep safeguards in place for nearly 690,000 people who were granted immigration protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Lawyers for the government have vowed to challenge the ruling and end DACA.

Today, UC Davis Vice Chancellor Raquel Aldana and Professor Blake Nordahl from McGeorge School of Law return to Insight with a survey of the latest developments and forecast of some potential outcomes in the debate over immigration policy.
