PG&E announced ahead of the current fire weather conditions that it might shut off the electricity to a huge swath of northern California. The affected area including parts of 34 counties, primarily in rural Northern California.

The initial numbers of customers in the outage area was estimated at about 800,000. You can see if you're in one of the areas that may be affected on our shutoff map here. PG&E has also launched a new website with information about the shutoffs after battling their website crashing over the past couple of days.

But, in addition, Southern California Edison also decided to turn off electricity to more urban areas of the state. Reactions have been mixed, from outrage to acceptance.

In this part of the program, we’ll get an update from the California Office of Emergency Services. Following that, CapRadio’s All Things Considered anchor Randol White and Digital Producer Emily Zentner will share listener concerns and answer some of the many questions we’ve received about the outages and where to obtain current and critical information.
