East Area Rapist Guilty Plea, State Budget, Explaining Asymptomatic Transmission

Margaret Wardlow was 13 years old when the East Area Rapist broke into her mother’s house and raped her, but she says she doesn't identify as a rape victim.

The so-called ‘East Area Rapist’ is expected to enter a guilty plea to at least 13 murder charges and 13 rape-related kidnapping charges late June in a Sacramento County courtroom.

Also known as the ‘Golden State Killer,’ Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested in 2018 on crimes he committed during the 1970s and ‘80s. The plea deal would spare DeAngelo’s life as he’d avoid the death penalty.

Today we’ll talk about it with one of his youngest survivors.

We’ll also take a look at how state budget negotiations are unfolding, and what you need to know about asymptomatic transmission.

Today's Guests:

  • Survivor Margaret Wardlow
  • CapRadio Politics Reporter Nicole Nixon
  • KPBS Science and Technology Reporter Shalina Chatlani
