Mayor Steinberg proposed this idea not just for Sacramento, but for the entire state. Earlier this year, Governor Gavin Newsom named Steinberg to lead the Statewide Commission on Homelessness & Supportive Housing.

Steinberg believes the solution to California’s housing and homeless problem is a partnership between the public and private sectors. This includes a rapid expansion of tiny home construction. Steinberg wants Sacramento to invest $30 million dollars to jump-start this effort.

California has been facing an expanding homeless and home affordability problem, particularly in the state’s major metropolitan areas.

Politifact Reporter Chris Nichols joins Insight to share his reporting in this area.
