House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff returns to a closed door meeting where Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland testifies as part of the House impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump on Oct. 17, 2019.

The Sunday morning TV news talk shows were their usual mix of supporters and detractors of President Donald Trump this weekend. On "Fox News Sunday," Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney stuck with his talking points from a surprise press conference late last week. He indicated he had been misunderstood, there was no quid pro quo on aid to Ukraine and, when asked if he had considered offering the president his resignation, he said he had not.

On "Face the Nation," Connecticut Democrat Jim Himes, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, talked about the status of the impeachment inquiry and the almost daily revelations the committee is hearing in the witness testimonies. Himes indicated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is thought to be trying to wrap up the House’s investigation by the end of the calendar year.

Joining us on Insight from Washington, DC is Kate Irby. She’s the California Congressional reporter for McClatchy. She’ll talk about the view from Washington, the role of members of the California delegation, the highlights from last week’s fast moving developments and what’s likely to happen on Capitol Hill this week.
