The next Democratic presidential debate is Wednesday night in Atlanta. There will be ten candidates on stage at Tyler Perry Studios. Two Californians will be among them: investor Tom Steyer and Sen. Kamala Harris. Harris has been falling in the polls while South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buddigieg is surging in Iowa.

LA Times National Political writer Melanie Mason will be in Atlanta covering the debate. She talked with Beth Ruyak on Monday, before Mason started her travel to Atlanta. Mason was asked how she sees this debate in the context of the public impeachment hearings. What possible differences does she anticipate?

Read Mason's recent story about endorsements of Sen. Kamala Harris and Sen. Bernie Sanders in the presidential race.
