This year’s Amgen Tour of California bike race will be the longest and most challenging in its 14-year history. Nineteen teams from 33 countries will participate in seven stages over seven days for the men’s race, with 16 teams in the women's race.

The men started yesterday in Sacramento and will continue through Saturday, ending in Pasadena. The terrain the race covers is varied — part flat, part mountainous, some highway, some back roads, as well as along the coast. In total, the race is 777.6 miles long

The women’s race runs Thursday through Saturday in three stages mostly through Southern California, covering 177 miles and also ending in Pasadena.

This will be the first year that Rancho Cordova will host a stage, which will present a different challenge for riders from the Sacramento course. It starts at sea level, and by the end of the 121 miles of peddling, riders will have done 15,000 feet of climbing on their way to South Lake Tahoe.

Mike Testa, president and CEO of Visit Sacramento, and Marc Sapoznik, executive director of the Rancho Cordova Travel and Tourism, join Insight to discuss the race.
