The first sparks came early in the morning of November 8, 2018.  By 6:16 am, the first call came. At that point, the fire was devouring brush and land, racing toward Pulga with roaring hot winds fueling it.

This hour is devoted to the on-going story of the Camp Fire. And while the vast majority of attention is focused on Paradise, people across Butte County lost family members,  friends, animals, vehicles, schools, businesses and homes.

Efforts toward recovery have had many stops and starts for people who decided to stay as well as for those who haven’t. John Clifford is one of those. Clifford grew up in Paradise. He was the owner of The Depot Restaurant, in the old train station in Magalia, which burned down in the Camp Fire. He has relocated to Ramona, north of San Diego.

And CapRadio’s Bob Moffitt shares his reporting on how disaster alerts do — and don’t — work, how they are evolving and what improvements are recommended.
