George Deukmejian, California's 35th Governor, died May 8, just shy of his 90th birthday.

Known as the "Iron Duke," Deukmejian was focused on public safety but wasn't afraid to go against his own party when necessary.

Steve Merksamer served as chief of staff for Deukmejian and spoke with CapRadio's Capitol Bureau Chief Ben Adler about his legacy.
