Driverless cars have the ability to exponentially improve our ability to move ourselves and our goods in a quick, orderly fashion. They also have the ability to exponentially jam up our roadways. The decisions we make now will affect the future we soon occupy.

Lauren Isaac is a thought leader on driverless cars and the Manager of Sustainable Transportation at WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff in San Francisco. She says major cities can benefit from driverless cars if they’re used in conjunction with public transportation.

If we simply replace our driver-operated cars for fully-automated cars, we’re doing nothing to lessen the traffic burden on our roadways. In fact, the ease of operating driverless cars will almost surely lead to increased traffic.

Isaac is talking about how we can plan for the future of driverless cars at TEDxSacramento this Friday afternoon at the Community Center Theater. She joins Insight with a preview of her talk.
