Lily Jamali is co-host of The California Report and was reporting around Northern California during last week’s fire weather scare and PG&E power shutoff. She’ll join us from KQED in San Francisco to tell us more about her reporting and the reactions she heard from the people she talked to. She’ll also discuss PG&E’s rejection of San Francisco's bid to buy the utility and responses from Gov. Gavin Newsom and elsewhere in Sacramento.

With conditions still ripe for fire, a prescribed burn in the Eldorado National Forest, near Kirkwood, is now a wildfire, dubbed the Caples Fire. The smoke from it covered a wide swath from the Lake Tahoe region to the Sacramento Valley. We’ll get an update from Calfire and CalOES, which coordinates across agencies and prepositions equipment and personnel at locations throughout the state. Weather conditions have been extremely conducive for the kind of fires both first responders and home owners fear most: dry, windy weather with low humidity.

In Southern California, the Saddleridge Fire that started Thursday night in Sylmar is on the way to being contained. At its height, that fire was consuming about 800 acres an hour. Evacuation orders have now been lifted and people are being allowed to return to their homes.
