Wild Nevada Hosts Preview Fourth Season

From secret hot springs, to ancient caves and a zipline through the forest, KNPB’s Wild Nevada shows the Silver State’s wilderness in a whole new light. The hosts of the Reno PBS affiliate Chris Orr and Dave Santina kick off the fourth season of the show Jan. 4 with an exploration into the Basin & Range National Monument and a historical perspective on the Civilian Conservation Corps.

This season on Wild Nevada:

Episode 401 – Alamo to Caliente

Hosts Dave Santina and Chris Orr explore Basin & Range National Monument near Alamo and two State Parks with Civilian Conservation Corps history, Beaver Dam and Cathedral Gorge.

Episode 402 – Moonrocks and McLane Peak

Chris and Dave enjoy unforgettable rides with professional racers, then see an ancient cave near Winnemucca Lake and climb McLane Peak, named in memory of Alvin McLane.

Episode 403 – Elko to Battle Mountain

A stop at the California Trail Interpretive Center, which shares the story of immigrant travel across the West.Then, it’s on to Battle Mountain for a tour of the Cookhouse Museum followed by an exciting ride along the Shoshone OHV Trails.

Episode 404 – Leaving Las Vegas

Chris and Dave enjoy activities that lie just outside of Las Vegas. They visit St. Thomas and Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument, before heading south of town to Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area.

Episode 405 – Elko to Jarbidge

Boating at Wild Horse State Recreation Area and an epic drive through beautiful country to Jarbidge. Residents there share their history, then we enjoy a hike to a striking view of Jarbidge Canyon.

Episode 406 – Around Reno

Dave and Chris visit Washoe Lake State Park south of Reno, then travel up to Chickadee Ridge for some snowshoeing, followed by a hike on new trail at Ballardini Ranch.

Episode 407 – Family Fun

Suggested outdoor activities for families include a child-friendly hike at Galena Creek Park, a senior-friendly walk on the Blue Line in Carson City and a dog-friendly walk along the Jones Creek Trail.

Episode 408 – Boulder City to Mesquite

Chris and Dave pedal to Hoover Dam along the Railroad Tunnel Trail, then experience a zip line at Bootleg Canyon, before traveling to Mesquite and visiting new areas of Gold Butte National Monument.

Episode 409 – Austin to Fallon

Dave and Chris explore the Toiyabe Range along the Gold Venture Loop, make a first-ever stop at Middlegate, then visit Hidden Cave outside Fallon before traveling to Buckland Station.

Episode 410 – Enjoying Ely

A visit to the Nevada Northern Railroad Museum complete with a ride on the train, then a gorgeous hike at Cave Lake State Park and a nighttime visit to a real bat cave to see researchers studying bat migration.
