Pianist Lara Downes will host the 2019 Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition this week. The event features top-notch talent competing for scholarships to support their musical studies.

Earlier this year, Lara Downes spoke with CapRadio’s morning classical host Kevin Doherty about her latest album “Holes in the Sky,” which features collaborations with Judy Collins, Rachel Barton Pine, Ifetayo Ali-Landing, Rhiannon Giddens, and Simone Dinnerstein.

The album tells the story of “what women and girls can contribute to the world when they are given a chance - their dreams can make holes in the sky.” The 2019 Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition will be held April 26 and April 27.
