More than 800 cases of whooping cough have been recorded in the past two weeks and the California Department of Public Health says it has reached epidemic proportions. As of the 10th of this month, there have been more than 3,400 cases of the illness also known as pertussis this year, which is more than the total for all of last year.

Dr. Dean Blumberg, Associate Professor and Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the UC Davis Medical Center, joins us in-studio to talk about the rise in cases and what parents should be on the lookout for this summer in addition to whooping cough.
