Conversation About Ukraine's Future

Ukraine’s newly-elected president, Petro Poroshenko, must navigate in a highly fluid political landscape in the near future. On the one hand, he faces expectations from pro-western Ukrainians for economic and political reforms and closer ties with the rest of Europe; on the other, he must contend with active, sometimes violent pro-Russian separatist militias in several cities in Eastern Ukraine. This Thursday, the World Affairs Council of Sacramento is hosting a conversation focused on Ukraine’s ongoing crisis, featuring Natalia Budaeva, a former country director at the International Republican Institute in Moscow, and Chester A. Newland, a Frances R. and John J. Duggan Professor Emeritus in Public Administration at the University of Southern California. Both of the guests join us ahead of Thursday’s discussion to talk about what might lie in Ukraine’s future.
