Opera Modesto is bringing one of the world’s most well-known operas to the stage at the Gallo Center for the Arts this weekend in its production of “Carmen.” The four-act opera that centers on the alluring Carmen and her love affairs with a soldier and a bullfighter will star mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz in the title role.

The show also stars singers from Modesto and the Bay Area, as well as Brazilian bass-baritone Johnny França, who will sing Escamillo in his U.S. debut. It will also feature original choreography from the Ballet Tradiciones Folklorico Dance Troupe, real bullfighters with and the first ever live horse on the Gallo stage.

You can see Opera Modesto perform “Carmen” on May 3, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. and May 5, 2019, at 2 p.m.

Watch Printz perform "Habanera" from "Carmen."
