Dense housing makes San Francisco one of the most compact cities in America.

There are many personal stories about the impact of the housing crunch in California — behind those stories are numbers, and CALmatters data reporter Matt Levin is back with another look at the affordable housing crisis.

He says supply and demand has an awful lot to do with it, but there are actually lots of unique California factors, including Proposition 13, that drive the price tag for living here higher.
