In the weeks following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, there have been conversations across the country from statehouse to schools about gun control policy, arming teachers and what measures could be taken to prevent a future tragedy.

Dr. Garen J. Wintemute, director of the UC Davis Violence Prevention Research Program, is a leading scholar investigating the data behind shootings and the policies that have proven effective in preventing them.

He’s been outspoken since Parkland about background checks, gun violence restraining orders and federal funding for gun violence research, and he shares his ideas on Insight.
