How many pieces of legislation made it through committee before Thursday's end-of-the-session deadline?  The answer-- still counting. The National Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which is coming to Sacramento State this June, announced today that the shotput competition would take place on the State Capitol grounds. Bob Burns from Sacramento State, which recently unveiled a new state-of-the-art track just in time for the big meet, joins us to talk about it. We’re also hoping to have someone from the Sac Republic soccer team join us to talk about a proposed sales tax to support a new stadium.

We talked to Rita while she was on a cross-country drive from Virginia to New York to Phoenix to Sacramento. Rita Dove’s work can be found on an installation in the Matsui Federal Courthouse in downtown Sacramento on twelve stone carved chairs.

When you’re a musician and you’re competing against names like Elton John, Carlos Santana and Prince for audiences, you’ve got to be at the top of your game. And Las Vegas pianist Frankie Moreno is. He’s a two-time Las Vegas “Entertainer of the Year” and he recently signed an album deal with Jay Z’s record label Roc Nation. He’s also coming to Sacramento to film his public television debut. KVIE Sacramento will be live broadcasting Moreno’s debut concert nationally this Friday. Moreno will also be performing at the Crest Theatre August 16.
