Neave Trio | photo: Lisa Marie Mazzucco
The four year old daughter of Czech composer Bedřich Smetana died of Scarlet Fever when he was 30 years old. He poured his grief into his Piano Trio in G-minor; but there are sadly sweet musical passages, too, and a final uplifting flourish in affirmation of his love for her that can never be diminished. Smetana’s only Piano Trio, from an upcoming July 5th release by the Neave Trio, is today’s Midday Masterpiece.
