New water restrictions are now in effect in the City of Sacramento.
The mandatory one-day-a-week watering schedule allows people to water Saturday or Sunday, unless it has been raining.
The city says over-watering or runoff is prohibited.
Water officials recommend watering times be cut in half compared to summer, because there is less evaporation in the winter.
Washing cars at home is only allowed on the same day chosen for watering, and a hose nozzle is required.
The one day-a-week schedule is in effect until March 12, 2016 – unless drought conditions worsen.
A statewide mandate to conserve 25 percent compared to 2013 remains in force through next February.
