New data from real estate tracking firm CoreLogic, shows 4,088 homes were sold in the 8-county capital region last month.

The sales number includes all new and resale homes and condos.

The region includes Amador, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties.

The median price for the 2,191 homes sold in Sacramento County in September 2015 was $280,000, a nearly 8 percent jump from the median sales price for homes sold in September 2014.

"Prices are up and we continue to have some pressure on prices because the inventory is still fairly thin and in the meantime mortgage rates are still low and we've had some job growth," says Andrew LePage with CoreLogic.

The number of homes sold in Sacramento County year-over-year increased nearly 16 percent in September 2015.

"Total [home] sales for Sacramento County in September were the highest for that month in seven years," says LePage. "Like the rest of the state, Sacramento saw a fairly strong September."

LePage says the median sales price for the homes sold in Sacramento County in September 2015 was the highest since December 2007.

Placer County's median September home sale price of $399,000 led the eight-county Sacramento region. The biggest percentage increase in September year-over-year median home sales price was in Sutter County: 18.6 percent.
