The Macbeth Connection

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth

Shakespeare’s shortest—and most blood-curdling—tragedy tells of an ambitious Scottish general and his wife who murder the ruling king and seize the throne. As if that weren’t enough, there are prophesying witches, a persistent ghost, and a famous sleepwalking scene.

It has fascinated audiences for nearly 400 years—and inspired some exceptional music.

In this hour, Macbeth in works by Beethoven, Verdi, Strauss, Sullivan, Ibert, Walton, and more.
