Crocker Curation: Arte Mexicano

  •  Jackson Levin
Sunday, October 12, 2014

/media/2681828/Gunther%20Gerzo-Paisaje-Espejismo.jpgOne of the key aspects of Arte Mexicano: Legacy of the Masters is the blending of mid-20th century artistic techniques with the cultural and nationalistic expression of pre-Columbian Mexico.

The pieces I’ve chosen for the playlist reflect this idea by presenting the ancient and sacred aspects of Mexican culture through both classical and electronic music by composers Carlos Chavez, Silvestre Revueltas, Jorge Moncayo, Jose Reyes and others.

This playlist’s combination of the historical and the contemporary conveys a celebration of Mexican culture in the modern world, and these artists’ desire to display their Mexican roots as members of a sovereign, proud nation.
