New York City-born Cynthia Lee Wong is currently the second selected composer for New Voices, a multi-organizational initiative with New World Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Boosey & Hawkes. Among the panel of judges were conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and composers John Adams, Steven Mackey, and Mason Bates. As part of the initiative, she receives mentorship from Boosey & Hawkes as well as chamber and orchestral commissions from the New World Symphony and San Francisco Symphony.

Reflecting the composer’s love of dramatic literature, Carnival Fever was inspired by “The Carnival at Rome” chapter from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.

 

A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Joshua Gersen recently finished his tenure as the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Conducting Fellow of the New World Symphony, where he served as the assistant conductor to the symphony's Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas. He is currently the Music Director of the New York Youth Symphony and guest conductor for orchestras around the United States.
