Sacramento Kings Partner With Kimpton For New Hotel

The Sacramento Kings and JMA Ventures, LLC said Monday that Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will be the "brand" for the 250-room hotel adjacent to the Entertainment and Sports Center (ESC) in downtown Sacramento.

The proposed 16-story mixed-use high-rise tower that would house the 250-room hotel is scheduled to open with the new ESC in fall 2016.

“Securing a world-renowned brand like Kimpton builds momentum for the project and the entire Sacramento region,” said Kings Chairman and Owner Vivek Ranadivé, in a news release. “One of our top priorities has been to ensure the arena and its supported businesses reflect Sacramento’s dynamic culture. Many hotel brands submitted proposals, but we ultimately felt that Kimpton was best-suited to help us deliver stellar hospitality anchored in inspiring design, unique style of branding and thoughtful amenities.”

Kimpton is known for its boutique hotel properties across the country, including the Hotel Palomar in San Francisco.

“We’re truly excited to be part of the tremendous growth and urban revitalization currently happening in Sacramento,” said Kimpton CEO Mike DeFrino.

The company takes into account the "local culture" of an area when designing its properties. DeFrino said each property is "tailored" to the local community.

"It would be sort of a missed opportunity not to at least give a nod to the fact that we're across the courtyard from the Kings stadium, and happen to be owned by the Kings, but it will not be a basketball-themed hotel," said DeFrino.

DeFrino said designers will also pull in other elements of Sacramento, including agriculture and the flavor of the state Capitol.

The Kings said the hotel would be the first Kimpton-branded property in the Sacramento region. They also said Kimpton's one-of-a-kind concept will be a draw to travelers.

“This center will be a dynamic destination for NBA fans and travelers from across the country," said Todd Chapman, president and CEO of JMA Ventures, LLC. "Kimpton is known for creating distinctive hotels that treat guests to a memorable experience – exactly what we want for the City of Sacramento and the entire region.”
