California vector control districts are on the lookout for the St. Louis Encephalitis Virus after it appeared in Placer, Yuba and Stanislaus counties last week.

The California Department of Public Health has issued a warning about hantavirus, which is spread through contact with rodents and their droppings, urine or saliva.
The Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency says more than 950 students, teachers and staff are currently sick with stomach cramps, vomiting and/or diarrhea throughout the county.
There may be an outbreak of norovirus in Yolo County. Health officials are checking out suspected cases at UC Davis, and K-12 schools in Woodland and West Sacramento.
UC Davis has been studying viruses like Ebola for the past five years. Today, the school was awarded a $100million grant to continue researching viruses and how they are transmitted from animals to humans.
