I began listening to smooth jazz on 105.5 KRVR out of Modesto, CA. Even my children would listen to smooth jazz to help them go to sleep. In the 1990’s when I was in my 30’s, my colleague Russ Tavaglione and I were traveling in his car during a business trip and we got to talking about “The Girl from Ipanema.” The conversation took off from there. I’ve always been a lover of music yet had not formerly identified jazz as a category. Russ taught me about Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz.
As a collector of vinyl, it was a natural to run across Astrud Gilberto and other jazz records when I delved into the stacks at various locations. While maybe not classic jazz, I still love Michael Franks and Steely Dan.
I recently added Vince Guaraldi and Thelonious Monk to my Pandora station list. Of course, I can always count on Capital Public Radio for Excellence In Jazz as I commute home from work! I’m proud to be an evergreen supporter of Capital Public Radio.
