Sac City College Public Information Officer Rick Brewer told Capital Public Radio the incident began around 4:05 p.m. with a verbal altercation between four individuals.

"At some point during this verbal argument one of the individuals pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and proceeded to shoot the other three individuals."

One victim was pronounced dead, one received multiple wounds and was transferred to UC Davis Medical Center, and one received a grazing and was treated on site.

One of the victims is a city college student.

"The campus is closed for the evening," says Brewer. "Satellite campuses are still open and have classes."

5:50 p.m. Police are now reporting only one victim was taken to the hospital. They're still searching the area and campus for the suspect.

Update: Only one person transported to hospital, third shooting victim did not require medical treatment at the hospital.

5:40 p.m. Sacramento Police tweeted a map of where the shooting occured.

5:30 p.m. Sacramento City College professor Don Button was pulling into the parking lot when the shots went off.

"There were three quick shots, a slight pause and then three or four more shots. I couldn't think about what else it might be besides guns," Button told Capital Public Radio.

He posted this on his Facebook page recounting the event:

"I was right around the corner parking my motorcycle. Heard six to seven shots and walked around to see what it was. Guy on the ground with friends around, and another who looked like he had been grazed in the hip.

Campus cops were on the scene in two minutes, city PD took ten, then emergency folks another few minutes.

I almost entered campus on that road, but took the faculty parking lot entrance instead, would have been a witness had I done so. Close call."
