Construction work on the downtown arena in Sacramento began Friday with a meet-and-greet by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger.
Both thanked the construction workers for their efforts. The Mayor started chants of Sacramento.
Workers will begin erecting barriers around the construction site, shutting off power to the east side of the Downtown Plaza mall, and re-striping traffic lanes.

Garage entrances at 6th and J and 6th and L are now closed to the public.
The separation of the east end electrical system from the west end should take two weeks.
There will be no "wrecking ball moment." The demolition will occur piece by piece and should complete by the fall of this year. Construction crews have approval to work 6 am to 11 pm Monday through Saturday.
Once demolition is complete, foundation work will then begin.

Bus stops on l between 5th and 7th have been relocated to Capitol Mall between 7th and 8th due to downtown arena construction.
