El Portal Fire Continues To Burn Near Yosemite National Park

UPDATE 1:00 P.M. -- The El Portal Fire near Yosemite National Park has burned 2,632 acres and is 5 percent contained.

07/28/2014 -- Update from the EP Fire Call Center Information Office following the 0600 briefing: 2,632 acres and 5% contained. Community briefing tonight at 6PM at the El Portal School.

Evacuation Areas:
All of the area known as “Old” El Portal
All of the area know as “Foresta”

Road Closure Information:
Foresta Rd at Hwy 140
Crane Creek Rd at Hwy 140
Hwy 120 “Big Oak Flat Rd” between Crane Flat and Hwy 140

Red Cross Resource center is located at Tenaya Lodge, 1122 Hwy 41 in Fish Camp.

6 A.M. A fire burning in the area of Yosemite National Park has charred more than 2,000 acres, destroying one home in a small community outside the park.

Fire officials say 90 residences and 50 outbuildings are threatened by the fire.

The National Park Service says the park is open, but there are a number of road closures and campground closures.

Last update from Yosemite National Park -- Sunday, July 27:

The El Portal fire is now reported at 2,632 acres and 0% containment. Multiple structures remain threatened with one structure reported as lost.

The Big Oak Flat Road between Crane Flat and the El Portal Road is temporarily closed. There is no access to Yosemite Valley via the Big Oak Flat or Tioga Roads or Highway 120. Tioga Road is open and accessible via Big Oak Flat and Tioga Pass Entrances. 

Crane Flat, Bridalveil Creek, and Yosemite Creek Campgrounds are closed, as are the communities are Old El Portal and Foresta.

A Type 1 Fire Management Team is now managing fire operations. There are 585 personnel working the fire. In addition to ground crews, a DC-10, 8 tankers, and 6 helicopters are being used to fight the fire.

A public briefing is scheduled for July 28 at 6 pm in the El Portal School.
