Southeast Asian Community Health Navigators

When it comes to health care access, language and cultural differences can present significant challenges for members of the Hmong, Mien and Cambodian communities. Health navigators from Sacramento's Southeast Asian Assistance Center work to connect members of these communities with services they need while also helping them achieve their own personal goals of health and wellness.


A New Start for Michiko

Michiko Bell was in the wrong place at the wrong time when she got shot. Now she's making changes with help from the Sacramento Violence Intervention Program (SVIP). Michiko says she's "trying to get it right" and that she wants to be a better role model for her three younger sisters.

The Hill Country Health and Wellness Center offers a variety of services for the adult residents of impoverished rural Shasta County. Several years ago, the Center recognized that younger residents needed attention too. So the Center created a teen center to help guide young people to a future filled with possibilities.
