A wildfire burning in El Dorado County has expanded evacuation orders for several communities northeast of Placerville.
Cal Fire says the Crozier Fire, which started Wednesday morning northwest of Slate Mountain, has burned 706 acres and is 5% contained. The cause is under investigation.
“The fire is burning in a remote part of the forest with heavy timber, thick brush, and difficult access,” Cal Fire officials wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Thursday morning. “We are in full suppression strategy with air and ground resources.”
Evacuation orders were issued for the Mosquito and Swansboro communities on Wednesday morning, and expanded later that evening to include portions of Garden Valley, Georgetown, Volcanoville and Quintette areas.
El Dorado County officials have launched an evacuation shelter at the Cameron Park Community Service District. Pets on a leash or in a kennel are also welcome.
Evacuees with RVs and other large vehicles are being directed to a temporary evacuation shelter at the Placerville Library.
Portions of the El Dorado National Forest, including Rock Creek Trails and roads, have closed “until further notice to protect for public safety,” Forest Service officials said.
