Voters around the Sacramento region dropped off ballots or voted in-person Tuesday, getting their choices in for California's primary election.
Around 19% percent of registered voters in Sacramento County had cast their ballot by the morning of Tuesday’s primary election, as every registered voter in the state received a mail-in ballot last month. For the ones who getting their ballots in Tuesday morning, many said primaries are an important part of democracy.
“It’s one of the privileges we have as Americans. Right?" said Chris Marzan, who voted in Midtown Sacramento soon after the polls opened. "So, coming from a family of immigrants, and my father’s a World War II veteran, and seeing him vote every year, I never got it when I was a kid, but I get it now.”

It’s important to vote. My parents were born in the early 1900s, so they didn’t actually have the right to vote because they were African American. So, they always told me that it was important to vote.

So many shootings ... [Uvalde’s] not the only one. There’s just more and more of them. And that’s not to mention, obviously, Roe v. Wade and all the abortion laws and how that’s just taking away a lot of bodily autonomy for women.
