Memorial Day 2017: A Capital Public Radio Guide

Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service. Below are some activities commemorating Memorial Day. 
 

May 28

 

Sacramento Memorial Auditorium Memorial Day Open House (Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Free)


An open house is being held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Docents will be available to talk with the public about points of interest in the building. "Memorial 90" will also screen at the Jean Runyon Little Theater.

The William L. Gilmore Memorial DAY Parade (Watt Ave, North Highlands, CA 95660, United States, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.)

The parade remembers those in military service who gave the ultimate sacrifice. The parade's theme is "In Memory of Many, In of All. There is an entry fee of $10.

The weekend was the official start of summer. CapRadio has a guide of events around Sacramento.

 

May 27: 

Sacramento Red, White, And Brewfest (Cesar Chavez Plaza: 5 p.m.)

General admission is $40, VIP admission is $50. Each general admission ticketholder will receive one souvenior cup and 10 tasting tickets.

Succulent Extravaganza (The Secret Garden, Elk Grove, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

Admission is free to this extravaganza featuring thousands of succulent varieties, arrangement-making opportunities and hourly live demonstrations from Instagram apartment gardening and succulent authority Warren Keller (@WarrensGarden).  

 

5th Annual Mediterranean Food Festival (St. Stephen Orthodox Church: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Memorial Day 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

General admission to the festival is $3. Children ages 10 and under are free.

Grand Island Vineyards One Year Anniversary Party (Grand Island Vineyards: 12 - 6 p.m.)

May 26: 

Elk Grove Brewfest (Old Town Elk Grove: 6 - 10 p.m.)

General admission to the event is $35, while VIP admissions cost $50. Designated drivers catch a lucky break - their admission totals just $10.

Sacramento Music Festival 2017 (Old Sacramento: 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., Memorial Day 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.)

Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival (The Guild Theater, 6:30 - 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Saturday)

The third annual Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival will feature documentaries and discussions centering around the year's theme

May 25:

Sacramento County Fair (Cal Expo: 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., Memorial Day 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

General admission to the fair runs $6 and youth ages 0-12 are free. Parking is $10, and limited bike parking will be available near the Rodeo Gate entrance.
