An avalanche occurred on SR-89 at Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe at approximately noon Friday.
The South Lake Tahoe division of the California Highway Patrol reports that one vehicle was trapped in the avalanche. Its occupants were able to safely leave the vehicle.
The avalanche has left SR-89 at Emerald Bay Road completely blocked. The CHP advises travelers to find an alternate route.
It is not yet known when the road will re-open. Capital Public Radio will post updates when available.
