Highways Now Open Following Multiple Vehicle Crashes Tuesday

Tuesday, January 3, 2017 | Sacramento, CA

FINAL UPDATE 7:20 p.m.: Caltrans says all roads are now open after two vehicle crashes caused multiple highway closures Tuesday. 

A jack-knifed big-rig overturned and caused multiple lanes to be shutdown on Eastbound Highway 50 near East Bidwell in Folsom.

Another collision involving a big-rig and a truck caused the closure of multiple lanes on Highway 99 near Elkhorn Blvd. The big-rig was overturned on its side.

UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: The number two lane is now open on Eastbound Highway 50 near East Bidwell in Folsom but traffic is still slow, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans also says the number one lane will be closed for guardrail repairs. The current estimated time of opening is about two hours.

All lanes of Southbound 99 at Elkhorn Blvd. are now open but traffic slow.

UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Both lanes are closed again on Southbound Highway 99 as crews cleanup after a big-rig overturn. There is a hard closure detour at Elkhorn Bvld. No estimated time of opening is available at the time.

Two lanes remain closed on Eastbound Highway 50 in Folsom following an earlier vehicle crash. The current estimated time of opening is 3:30 p.m. Three lanes were closed earlier.

ORIGINAL: Multiple vehicle accidents prompted highway closures in the Sacramento region Tuesday.

According to Caltrans, two lanes remain closed on Eastbound US Hwy 50 in Folsom due to a jack-knifed, big-rig blocking the road. The current estimated time of opening is 3:30 p.m. Three lanes were closed earlier.

One lane remains closed on Southbound Highway 99 by Elkhorn Blvd. According to Sacramento Fire, a big-rig and truck crashed causing the big-rig to overturn on its side. Both lanes were closed earlier.

Drivers should watch for slow traffic or use alternate routes.
