Ranadive Discounts Rumors Kings Are Courting Calipari

Sacramento Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive, left, talks with the team's new head coach, George Karl, before the Kings played the Boston Celtics in an NBA basketball game in Sacramento, Calif., Friday, Feb. 20, 2015.

Sacramento Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive says the team is not trying to replace head coach George Karl with University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari.

Ranadive was outside a Sacramento Superior Court room when he commented on a story from Yahoo Sports that says the team is in negotiations with Calipari.

"That is categorically untrue," said Ranadive.

When asked if he was looking for a new head coach, he said, "No. I would say speak to Vlade who's in charge of basketball, but it's untrue."

And, when asked if George Karl will be his head coach, Ranadive said, "That is correct."

Ranadive testified Tuesday in a lawsuit brought against the team and the City of Sacramento.

The lawsuit alleges the city misstated the value of city assets that were promised to the Kings as part of a deal to build a new arena downtown.
