Sacramento Area High School Student Diagnosed With Active Tuberculosis

Sunday, February 1, 2015 | Sacramento, CA

A Florin High School student was diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB), according to a press release from Sacramento County Division of Public Health.

The student is now isolated at home. Health officials say there is no longer a risk of exposure to students and staff at the school.

Letters were mailed to the parents of all students who were potentially exposed.

Public Health will only be testing students and staff who shared a classroom with the diagnosed student. Public Health and Florin High School have scheduled a time to provide screening tests, and those testing positive will be evaluated further.

"Public Health is working closely with school officials to proactively investigate and screen any potential exposures," said Sacramento County Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye. “We want to focus first on those in the same classrooms as the diagnosed student, so that we can quickly evaluate them and provide preventive treatment.”
