Reno city councilwoman Hillary Schieve will be the city's new mayor.

Schieve says she the city needs spend budget money wisely. She also says revitalizing downtown Reno is a priority.

"I think that if we look at downtown and we focus on the redevelopment and bring in the university and do some of the things that we did in midtown that were extremely successful, I think bringing in more arts and culture is going to be incredibly important," says Schieve.

Washoe County Election Summary: Schieve: 60.90%, Pezonella: 39.10%

Her opponent, Raymond "Pez" Pezonella wanted to serve the community as mayor, but says he has no plans to run for elective office again.

"I'm too old. I've gotten to a point where I was going to retire from my business, I was going to be mayor for four years, and do what I could to help the city, I wasn't even going to be a long-time mayor."

Pezonella says he looks forward to spending time with his wife and his eight grandchildren.
