Next up is No. 18 Arizona State (33-23) in an elimination game on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the San Luis Obispo regional. Cal Poly will play Pepperdine (40-16) in the winners bracket on Saturday after the Waves beat Arizona State 3-2 on Friday afternoon.

Original Story:

Sacramento State claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship this year and will play in the NCAA's post season Division I tournament for the first time.

Sacramento State won both the regular season and postseason Western Athletic Conference championships.  This is the first year the Hornets have won a regular season title or appeared in an NCAA Division I regional playoff.

The school beat Utah Valley to win the league championship. Sacramento State had won four Division II championships in previous years.

The school batted .310 for the season, had an earned run average of just over two runs per game and led the league in fielding percentage.

The Hornets' road to the College World Series won't be easy.

Sacramento State makes its regional debut against Cal Poly tonight at 6 p.m.  Cal Poly is the top seed in the region and is ranked as high as fifth in the nation.

The game will be nationally televised on ESPN3.
