Ruth Finch is a photojournalist, filmmaker and musician. She moved to Sacramento from Tehachapi in 2022 to attend Sacramento State and graduated with her B.A. in Journalism in December 2025. At Sacramento State, she was a recipient of a Sacramento Press Club Scholarship and a Grassroots Gay Rights Foundation’s We Rise LGBTQ Scholarship.

Finch got her start in reporting with Solving Sacramento, a nonprofit outlet covering local news and solutions. As a transgender woman, she has a vested interest in representing her community, and making LGBTQ+ voices heard. She also loves to cover music, art and housing. Out of the newsroom, she loves going to live music, playing Dungeons & Dragons and walking with her friends around beautiful downtown Sacramento.
