Photos: What voting looked like on a rainy Election Day in Sacramento

Voters braved cold, wet weather across the Sacramento region Tuesday morning to vote in-person or drop off their mail-in ballots for the 2022 midterm election.

Noelle Roberts managed the voting location at the Pannell Community Center in the Meadowview neighborhood of Sacramento. She expected a light turnout there because of the rain, which forecasters said could be up to a quarter of an inch Tuesday.

"This is going to come down all day and we close at 8 [p.m.]," Roberts said. "Unless there’s going to be a break in the rain, some people will vote by mail or they’ll drop if off because they don't want to get out."

As of Monday at 5:30 p.m., more than 221,000 votes have been cast and processed in Sacramento County, about 26% of all registered voters.

Alesia Lewis was voting in Oak Park Tuesday morning. She said she was motivated to vote to support reproductive rights, especially Californa's Proposition 1, which would add protection for abortion rights to the state constitution.

"[I'm] concerned about some of the directions that the country is going in with, you know, the overturning of Roe v. Wade,” she said. “And even though we're in California, important to get out and vote."

In Midtown, Robert Mull was focused on frustration with rising inflation and the state's response to COVID-19.

"I can only speak about me personally, but the COVID response has destroyed my career and my livelihood," he said. "I have a small business and the business is still functioning, but it's nowhere near where it was in 2019."
