Vicki Gonzalez arrived at CapRadio in March of 2021. She is the host and managing editor of CapRadio’s flagship news talk show Insight with Vicki Gonzalez.
Vicki was a listener and CapRadio Evergreen member years before she stepped into the newsroom. In her words, there’s nothing really like Insight in Sacramento.
She loves being a local journalist and interviewing people from all walks of life, with a community that spans the state Capitol, North State, Sierra Foothills, Central Valley and Northern Nevada - often many of these places in a single show.
Outside of the studio, Vicki regularly is out-and-about at community events, moderating discussions, as well as taking part in panels on a variety of topics.
An issue deeply personal to Vicki is breast cancer. She was diagnosed just after her 40th birthday and realized how little she knew about a cancer that affects 1 in 8 women in the country. She was public about her diagnosis to highlight the growing number of younger women with no family history diagnosed in recent years. She opened up about fertility hardships, including pregnancy losses, so that others will be better informed about their options.
In addition to Insight, Vicki has collaborated with public media stations for multiple statewide specials. In 2025, she co-hosted 100 Days: Two Americas which broadcasted across California and Texas assessing the impact of President Trump’s policies in his first months in office. Vicki also hosted the investigative reporting project BURNED, which received a National Edward R. Murrow award.
Prior to CapRadio, Vicki was a reporter at KCRA-TV in Sacramento. Her field reporting has been part of numerous Edward R. Murrow and Emmy awards. Notably, she received a regional Murrow for the documentary Return to Paradise where she followed four families for a year after the Camp Fire — the deadliest wildfire in California history. As a California Fellow for USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism, Vicki received a regional Emmy for the half-hour special Hope, Humanity and Housing which looked at the health disparities of affordable housing and those experiencing homelessness. And Vicki’s reporting on the Oroville Dam spillway crisis, Santa Rosa Tubbs wildfire, Las Vegas mass shooting and the transgender youth series Now I Am Me was part of KCRA’s National Murrow for News Excellence.
Before calling Sacramento home, Vicki worked at KSNV-TV in Las Vegas, KXFV-TV in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas and KABC-TV in Los Angeles.
A homegrown Angeleno, Vicki is a California native with roots that span multiple continents. Her abuelos (grandmother and grandfather) are from Guadalajara, Mexico, her grandmother from Kobe, Japan and her English grandfather was born and raised in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and a proud community college alum.
Vicki loves calling Sacramento home with her husband and cats. You can find her at the farmer’s market, floating down the American River, on a bike trail, or bouncing around local restaurants. Outside of town, Vicki is usually on a road trip exploring all that the Golden State has to offer.
