PHOTOS: Thousands March Saturday In Sacramento To Protest Racism, Police Brutality

Saturday, June 6, 2020 | Sacramento, CA

Thousands of people marched against police brutality and racism Saturday in Sacramento.

The demonstration began at the Golden 1 Center downtown, then went east toward City Hall, before gathering at Cesar Chavez Plaza.

Speakers at the plaza called for nationwide police reforms, including the end of carotid chokeholds by Sacramento police. Gov. Gavin Newsom directed the practice to be dropped from state police training programs on Friday and called for local governments to end its use. Mayor Darrell Steinberg said he supports the move.

On Saturday, the Sacramento City Council voted to end the citywide curfew order. The deployment of the National Guard will also end at midnight.
