There’s an ongoing debate at the California Capitol over whether undocumented immigrants should be eligible for Medi-Cal, the state’s low-income health care program. If the most ambitious proposals go through, California would be the first state to expand Medicaid to everyone, regardless of immigration status.

But it’s an expensive plan. And opponents are concerned about adding new patients to an already-overburdened system. In the meantime, millions of people are using workarounds to find care, or simply going without it.

CapRadio health reporter Sammy Caiola joins Insight with an update on the latest developments over how the state will provide healthcare to undocumented Californians.
