Sean Pawling grew up in South Lake Tahoe, where he learned to play guitar and trombone and write songs. He writes retro-influenced folk pop songs that reflect his love of California’s natural beauty. Sean is now based out of Los Angeles, where he first met his bandmates Nate and Andrea Vaughan. Andrea keeps the beat going on drums. Nate plays bass, and he also mixes and produces Sean’s records.

Sean Pawling stopped by the Insight studio to talk with Insight host Pamela Wu about the new album “Sunsinking” last August during his summer tour of California.

Sean Pawling on the concept and aesthetic of “Sunsinking”:

“This is definitely a departure from my last album [“Eye for an Eiger” in 2014]. It is a nice mix of my relaxed vibe, but I also mix in more sounds from the ‘70s: 70s pop music synthesizer, a good use of horns, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone.
The songs basically follow an arc starting off with daytime -  sunny pop songs - and then transition to nighttime songs with more synthesizer, a little bit darker of a mood before you come back to the daytime.”

You can find upcoming shows for Sean Pawling on his events page.
