More than 2,000 people are expected to spend their Saturday morning volunteering to pick up trash along the parkway.
"It's part of the statewide Coastal Cleanup Day and locally we have been doing the Great American River Cleanup for over 15 years. Last year we picked up around three tons of trash in one day in a three hour period."
Dianna Poggetto is with the American River Parkway Foundation which organizes the cleanup twice a year. Poggetto says if litter isn't picked up along the 23 mile parkway it'll get into the water.
"And we don't want it in our waterways because the water from the river goes directly into the bay and can harm plants and fish life."
The clean up is tomorrow from 9 AM to Noon at 21 sites along the parkway.
