Miles Davis was a restless innovator. From bebop to modal jazz to fusion, Miles continued to shape the sound of jazz without ever looking back. His ability to select the premiere musicians in jazz and get the best out of them was legendary. This five-hour program will examine Miles’ classic recordings throughout his career and feature some of the musicians Miles admired, including Ahmad Jamal, Wallace Roney, Blossom Dearie, and Shirley Horn. We’ll interview pianist John Beasley who played with Miles beginning in 1988 and who has recently formed a band called Unlimited Miles. We'll also hear from Marcus Shelby, Ron Carter, John McLaughlin, and Jeremy Pelt regarding the impact of Miles on their careers.
